Lu L. (Aguilera) DeLaHunt, 90 of Tempe, AZ and formerly of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the Tempe Post Acute Care Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:30 pm Friday, January 31, 2025, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, IA.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Lu was born July 20, 1934, in Frost, MN the daughter of Joseph and Trina Cecelia (Ochoa) Aguilera. Growing up with eight siblings, Lu attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Manly, IA before continuing on to Manly Senior High School. She was blessed with four children, Thomas, Brett, Amy and Paula
Lu often said she’d be perfectly happy if her obituary simply read, “I lived and I died.” True to her nature, she preferred things straightforward and without fuss. Anyone who knew Lu knew she was fiercely independent and always honest. Her no-nonsense attitude, heartfelt advice, and zest for life will not soon be forgotten. She poured herself into her work and her greatest joys came from shopping, where she perfected the art of finding treasures, and gifts for others.
Lu is survived by her children, Thomas (Jan) Aguilera of Ellendale, MN, Brett (Theresa “Terri”) DeLaHunt of Waterloo, IA; Amy Pfeifer of Roscoe, IL, and Paula (John) Adams of Tempe, AZ; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Annie (Val) Infante, Maggie Terhark, Rosie (Dennis) Dirksen, Linda Scott, and Bob Aguilera as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Joe and Trina; brothers Joseph and David Aguilera; sister Lucy Hausman; brother-in-law Carroll Terhark; sister-in-law Ann Aguilera; and other family members.
