Alleged drunk driver caught driving without license

MASON CITY – An ex-convict who spent time in an Iowa penitentiary and was arrested in April for second offense drunk driving and interference with police was caught driving without a license eary Saturday.

Aaron Lee Nixon, age 28, was stopped by a Cerro Gordo deputy Saturday morning at about 2:00 AM right outside his apartment complex at the 1000 block of South Illinois Avenue. The officer discovered that Nixon has a revoked driver’s license. He was arrested and his vehicle was impounded.

Nixon had been free on cash bond since April 29th. Two days earlier, on April 27th, an erratic driver was spotted near 9th Street and Elm Drive. The driver, who was Nixon, was believed to have collided with the curb and or a fixed object, crippling his car. The car was allegedly driven in its severely-damaged state through a yard and parked illegally back on the traveled portion of the road. Officers arrived and found Nixon behind the wheel. Field Sobriety tests were conducted before Nixon was informed he would be arrested for operating while intoxicated second offense. Nixon then allegedly resisted arrest before he was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting a jury trial on August 26th in the drunk driving case and a September trial on the interference charge.

Nixon is a convicted felon who spent a number of months in the Fort Dodge Correctional Facilty on drug charges and other infractions.
