On Monday, April 16th, 28-year-old Jeffery Edward Collins was sentenced to serve up to 5 years through the Iowa Department of Corrections at an OWI facility.

Collins was arrested on the afternoon of November 16th, 2011 for 3rd Offense OWI, one count of child endangerment, speeding, and not having a drivers license. The arrest followed a traffic stop by a Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputy west of Nora Springs near the corner of HWY 18 and 265th street.

Court records show Senior Judge Gerald W. Magee dismissed the child endangerment charge on December 21st, 2011.

Two weeks before a scheduled trial Jeffery Collins entered a written plea of guilty to the 3rd offense OWI charge on February 17th.

At the sentencing hearing on Monday presiding District Court Judge Colleen D. Weiland ordered Collins to immediately be placed at Beje Clark’s residential facility. Judge Weiland sentenced Collins to serve up to 5 years in an OWI facility through the Iowa Department of Corrections. Collins must also pay a state legislature mandated fine of $3,125 for the 3rd offense OWI conviction.
