MASON CITY – Cerro Gordo county’s health department director warned this morning that “large numbers of people frequenting area business with no concern for social distancing” have been observed during the current coronavirus outbreak and things need to change.
“Iowa now has a total of 90 positive cases of COVID-19, IDPH announced 3/22/2020,” said Brian Hanft, health department director. “1215 negative tests have been conducted at the State Hygienic Lab. Below you will see the details about the weekly press conference.
“Yesterday I discussed everyone making ‘staying home’ our new normal. Despite our continued messaging, I still see large numbers of people frequenting area business with no concern for social distancing. As our first responders carry out their efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, I must emphasize the “stay home” message again, again, and again. I hear of community events where groups of people larger than 10, coming together for various gathering purposes like youth sports planning, auctions, parties, and other general events. Although some businesses are still allowed to remain open, people should only visit them for essential supplies and gatherings of more than 10 people should cease immediately. Please remember that the spread of this virus, or the lack thereof, is determined by each and every person taking responsibility to follow these rules. I am pleading for everyone to own their actions and stay home whenever possible. If group gatherings must take place, do it via zoom meetings, skype, or another electronic method. The goal of our response efforts is to limit the impact on those who are immunocompromised, have underlying health conditions, or are part of the population at higher risk. By doing your part, you will help contain the spread and save lives. Thank you.”

Very true! I was at HyVee West, not very many people there, I’m in the produce section with one other lady who starts sneezing, 7 times all over the grapes with out covering up. The president has no control on this, it is individual people and being smart about it. It’s not a democratic, republican, socialist illness. It is a human illness, stop pointing fingers and start helping stop the spread of this!
