CHARLES CITY — Dale August Matte, 52, of Charles City and Rockport, Texas, passed away Friday, August 28, 2026.

Arrangements are being handled by Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City. Additional service information was not announced.

Dale was born December 19, 1973. He found happiness in a simple life filled with familiar people, favorite pastimes and the small pleasures that made each day meaningful.

He enjoyed spending time with his cat, Tommy, going for walks and riding his bicycle. He could happily devote hours to playing video games, and he developed an interest in collecting knives.

Some of Dale’s most treasured moments were spent riding gravel roads with his brother, Ron, visiting friends and watching football during the winter.

Food was another of Dale’s great joys. He loved eating good meals, talking about food and occasionally doing the cooking himself. He especially enjoyed the times he and Ron fired up the smoker to prepare meat, with venison among his favorites. Dale was also known for his love of sweets.

Dale is survived by his brother, Ron Matte, and Ron’s wife, Sherri, and daughter, Cassy Rye; his sister, Kelley Huffman, and her children, Ashley Cavan, Brandi Huffman and Ethan Huffman, and their families; his brother-in-law, Dan Huffman; and his brother, Hal Matte, and Hal’s wife, Devon, and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Matte Sr. and Dianne (Roberts/Matte) Garrett.

Dale will be deeply missed by the family and friends who shared in the simple, comfortable and memorable moments of his life.
