Op-ed: Is this what Jesus would do? (by Peter Children)

Other than reported home invasions, an occasional murder,  some drug busts, there isn’t much happening in River City but of course I don’t go to the North End unless I am in the car driving through.

The parking problems on the Plaza seem to have gone under ground for now; the café at the Park Inn hotel is up and running but no one really knows if it’s actually open to everyone, or if there is restrictions on getting in there. There is no advertising surrounding it on any media outlet in this area.  My advice to everyone is to simply forget it exists, because in many ways it really doesn’t.  Any place that does not have garlic in their kitchen isn’t a real restaurant anyway.  They probably have a picture of a bottle of olive oil, but not a real bottle.

The summer is rather boring; things at 5-East are also quiet, the mayor could be on antabuse which would account for this quiet period, or he could be plotting to find a way to escape the hypocrisy of spending $76,500.00 to move his desk while at the same time trying to upend the sanitation department under the guise of saving money for the city.

The Mercy hospital reportedly is looking to take space in the Willowbrook Mall. This is an interesting  dichotomy; the hospital pawns itself off as a Christian enterprise governed by Christian values…yet they will think nothing of uprooting established businesses that have existed in the same location for 28 years.  Is this what Jesus would do?  It can’t be because space is hard to come by in this town….that’s for sure.

We haven’t heard from Willett the Economic Developer for quite a while. I think he’s securely ensconced in with the Chamber where the rigor of the day is to put out a newsletter to whatever members are left.  The title, “Chamber of Commerce” is a misnomer because they have had very little to do with any commerce of late.  They are training Willett.

We also have something called “A Main Street Coordinator” who combs his hair down over his forehead like he was in the Fifth Grade; maybe he is, he has a make believe job as far as I can see.  He doesn’t take breaks, he gets recesses.
