MASON CITY – The Mason City School board met in a special session on Tuesday to discuss and vote on approving a bid for phase 3 renovation work on John Adams Middle School.
The board ended up selected the low bid of $8,758,000.00 from Henkel Construction of Mason City.
The school board received four bids and all four were well under the architect’s estimate of $10.4 million to complete the project.
The only portion of the project left to decide is how to go about replacing or re-finishing the school’s lockers. Current lockers in the school are in “pretty good shape.” Installing new lockers would actually lower Henkel’s bid by $5,000. The board held off on that point in order to get more information on the quality of new lockers that would be installed, to be sure they match up with the current lockers.
Also included in the project is an elevator, light fixture replacement, and exterior brick re-pointing.
