NIT – Congressman Bruce Braley issued a speedy apology Tuesday after slamming six-term US Senator Charles Grassley for being an Iowa farmer who never went to law school.
The following is the apology, sent to the NIT newsroom Tuesday afternoon from the Braley for Senate campaign:
“I apologize to Senator Grassley and anyone I may have offended. I respect Senator Grassley and enjoy our working relationship even though we disagree on some issues.
“But there is a clear choice in this race between Mark Jacobs and my other opponents who support policies that are bad for Iowa farmers, and the work I’ve done hand in hand with Iowa farmers to grow Iowa’s farm economy and create good paying Iowa farm jobs.
“My parents both grew up on Iowa farms during the Great Depression. It deeply influenced who they are and who I am, and gave me a profound appreciation for what farmers do for the world. One of my grandfathers was a charter member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. I grew up in rural Iowa, doing farm jobs and working a grain elevator. I have tremendous respect for Iowa farmers and appreciate how important they are to our state, and I’m grateful to have the support of hundreds of farmers across Iowa,” said Rep. Bruce Braley.

Stick a fork in h he is done!!
Braley will win easily and that is because he is not afraid to tell the truth. Have a conversation with Grassley and you will find out what Braley is saying is the truth.
Braley’s point stands: How can Chuck Grassley sit on the House Judiciary Committee if he doesn’t know the law and process he is supposed to be monitoring? That is the broader point he was making, and it’s understood by me for what it was. Would you ask Grassley to oversee doctors who perform surgeries if he doesn’t know medical science? NO. Same applies here.
Philosophus…..Not to dwell in the past, but do you recall a month or so back that you were interested in taking the Bar Exam prior to attending law school?
Yes but Buzz, my point on that was a person should be able to sit for the bar regardless of how they acquired their knowledge. They still need to pass it before practicing law. If Grassley wants to pass the bar, then perhaps he could be qualified to oversee the House Judiciary Committee.
My opinion is we already have too many lawyers the way it is, especially in the US House and Senate. Not that it will matter to a guy like Braley, but after his comments and “apology” I wouldn’t ever vote for him. I wouldn’t want Sen. Grassley overseeing the House Judiciary Committee either. I won’t have a problem if he were to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee though. 🙂
You got me: Senate Judiciary Committee or just Judiciary Committee would have sufficed. I’m just saying the big deal being made by this is overblown out of proportion. My point about overseeing medical personnel and lawyers as a non professional still stands. Important elements of justice may be being overlooked by Grassley because of his non-professional status. I’m glad Braley brought this up really; never thought much of it until now.
@Buzz-I see you are still alive and well.
LVS…Just saw your post. Yes I am, thank you very much!
Look at all the booze on that table. Exactly how much did the libratard drink before he attacked an honorable man? Drop out of the race.
As a farmer, I’m a bit put out by Rep. Braley’s comments about Sen. Grassley.
I have some college education and I value it, but “knowledge” is a life-long pursuit.
I think it’s a good thing that Braley is getting a little lesson on this subject. I hope it makes him a better candidate.
This is a non-apology apology, Braley meant it when he said it, it was written out, he insinuated that a farmer is not qualified, then makes the cover up his parents who grew up on the farm during the depression.
This guy has lost his Iowa roots. Remember the statement during the government shut down? The thing he came up with one thing, “there is now towel service in the House gym and work out area.” Boo Hoo Braley, we know what is important to you and that is your perks that you get.
