Northern Iowa man crashes motorcycle in Kossuth county and is flown to Mason City hospital; police investigating accident

Motorcyclist lost control and struck a tree; Mercy Air LifeFlight activated; police take driver's blood to investigate

SWEA CITY, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man crashed his motorcycle in Kossuth county and was flown to a Mason City hospital with life-threatening injuries and police are investigating the accident.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in Swea City at 2:51 a.m. on 06-14-2022 of a motorcycle accident with one person injured. The Swea City Ambulance and Fire were dispatched to the scene, which was near the intersection of Ash Avenue and 3rd Street in Swea City. A motorcycle, driven by 35-year-old Jessie Cassidy of Swea City was westbound on Ash Avenue and lost control. The motorcycle went over the curb on the north side of the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection of 3rd Street.

As a result of the accident, Auto Launch was activated for Mercy Air LifeFlight to come to the scene. The Swea City Fire Department and an Emmet County Deputy assisted in securing a landing zone at the football field located on the west edge of Swea City. Jessie Casidy was flown to Mercy Hospital in Mason City with possible life threatening injuries.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Mason City Police Department in executing a search warrant on Jessie Cassidy to collect a specimen of blood to determine the possibility of drugs and/or alcohol.

This case remains under investigation.
