MASON CITY – Police arrested a Mason City man for a domestic assault Christmas night even as he awaits a court date on a felony charge of domestic abuse.
According to records, four Mason City police officers responded to the south side of the 200 block of West State Street on December 25th at about 11:00 PM for a possible domestic assault. Officers arrested 32-year-old Jermaine T. Riley for violation of a no contact order that was already in place due to a previous domestic assault charge that took place on November 27th and a new charge of aggravated domestic assault. Police noted that the landlord assisted with the investigation.
Riley was out of jail (released with supervision) awaiting a January 28th jury trail for the November felony domestic assault charge, to which he has plead not guilty. Four times since 2012, Riley has faced domestic assault charges.
NIT previously reported that in late October of 2013, a woman went to Cerro Gordo county court to establish paternity and child support against Riley. A genetic test was performed in November by Labcorp, and the outcome was pending until results of the exam were returned on December 12th. An Iowa 252F order was approved on December 14th by Judge Christopher Foy establishing child support to be paid by Riley.
Riley plead guilty to child endangerment in 2012 in Black Hawk county. He also plead guilty to domestic abuse assault. He was to complete a batterer’s education program in Mason City, but as of December 23rd had failed to do so.
