MASON CITY – On Monday, November 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., Lincoln Intermediate will hold their 6th annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. This year’s theme will be centered on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speech “I Have A Dream”. Students will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s inspirational speech entitled “I Have A Dream” with a power point presentation narrated by students. Also included will be an anthem sung by the entire student body, a flag folding ceremony, and a rifle salute followed by the traditional playing of “Taps” on the trumpet. Veterans of all ages are invited to attend the assembly. John Adams Middle School will have its 1st annual Veteran’s Day program from 10:00-11:10 a.m. in the John Adams Middle School gym. Activities will include the presentation of colors and the singing of the national anthem by two high school students, musical numbers by three groups of John Adams Middle School band students, presentations by math instructor Sherri Burt and Dean of Students Josh Smith, readings of student letters written to veterans, video tribute to veterans, “Taps” played by band instructor Aaron Anderson, and the retirement of the colors. In preparation for this event, social studies teachers have reviewed the importance of the day and proper etiquette with all students to provide a meaningful ceremony for all. Literacy teachers are having students write letters to veterans. Veterans of all ages are invited to attend the assembly.
