MASON CITY – Police said Monday that a report from a bicyclist about being shot at is not confirmed.

Police received a report Sunday night from a man riding a bicycle on the city’s North End who claimed he was shot at. The man was southbound on the 700 block of North Federal at about 11:30 PM. The man claimed to police that a car pulled up next to him and fired a gun at him. The bicyclist was not struck by a bullet.

The man on the bicycle further reported to police that after the alleged incident, he rode “many blocks” throughout the city to make sure the car was not following him before finally reporting the incident at 11:53 PM.

Police stressed that there are other details that they are not releasing at this time and the case is “very sketchy”.

“We are unable to confirm at this time whether the incident occurred,” Captain Mike McKelvey stated Monday.

If anyone has information on this alleged incident, they are advised to call police at 641-421-3636.
