MASON CITY – There was only minor damage to a house after a fire early Tuesday morning in Mason City.
According to a report, a fire was reported at 914 6th Street SW at about 3:48 AM. Mason City Fire Department personnel arrived about four minutes later at the single family home owned by Charles Zirbel of Clear Lake.
The MCFD responded for garbage on fire next to the house. Enroute, dispatch advised fire personnel that the side of the house was on fire.
Upon arrival, fire fighters extinguished a pile of garbage and siding of the house. The MCFD conducted a search of the house and found all clear.
MCFD personnel then overhauled siding of house and ventilated the house. They left the scene at about 4:30 AM. Damage was estimated to be at or less than $1,000.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.
