EVANSTON, ILL. – Aaron White led the way for the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday against the depleted Northwestern Wildcats, scoring 17 points and helping Iowa to a 70-50 win and its first Big 10 Conference victory of the season.
Iowa snapped a five-game losing streak to Northwestern and a four-game losing streak at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Josh Oglesby added 14 points, hitting 4-9 from 3 point range as Iowa overwhelmed the Northwestern, building a lead as big as 27 points before garbage time set in.
Iowa led 25-15 at the half, and Northwestern’s 15 first half points were the second fewest from an Iowa opponent this season. Iowa held Coppin State to 14 first half points.
Adam Woodbury tied a career-high with nine rebounds while Melsahn Basabe scored in double-digits for the second straight game with 11 points.
Iowa improves to 22-0 when holding its opponent to 60 points or less over the past three years.
Iowa is now 12-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. Iowa faces Wisconsin at home in their next game on January 19th.
