NorthIowaToday.com received the following from Cory Chodur of Mason City on Thursday morning, November 15th, regarding the deferred judgement he received on drug charges on November 13th:

——

I find this article unnecessary and am asking that it please be removed. I don’t understand why your news publication decided to put me back on the spotlight for a crime that happened almost a year ago.  The reason for a deferred judgement in my case is to help me go onto school and get help with student aid and to further help me with my career and this article hampers my ability to do so by bringing my name back into the news for employers and schools alike to easily view. Again I find absolutely no reason that this article needed to be posted, so I’m please asking that it be removed. Thanks

NIT response:

Mr. Chodur,

I think the real question here is how did you go free after this crime?  Were you not caught with multiple pounds of illegal drugs?  What about your past charges of trespassing (multiple), 5th degree theft (multiple), OWI, and contempt of court (multiple)?  Perhaps the real story here is that your case demonstrates what is wrong with our courts.  You are habitually charged with crimes, and then you go free.  What is the real story behind that?  And now you blame the media for putting you in the “spotlight”?  Your crimes and actions put you in the spotlight, sir.

Enjoy your freedom.

What is wrong with the courts? A great example is a trial that’s being currently streamed online on WBIR, a news channel on a Knoxville, TN case. 2 college aged kids car-jacked, tortured, raped, sodomized and murdered by a group of people. They all got convictions and then it turned out the judge was a drug addict and on stuff during trial so now there are retrials going on. Those poor parents are in court daily listening to the horrific details over and over again.

Stay classy Matt….

If you are going to be a punk and commit crimes you must be also willing to pay the price. This can mean jail time and any ridicule that may come along your way. For way too long the other media outlets in the area would avoid publishing the facts that we have serious crime issues in this area.

If your worried about a financial aide for drug dealers, especially cocaine. I believe NIACC offers a scholership for this. Deb Derr hands it out under the name Dorm Party Consultant Fund.

Typical ass wipe deals drugs then wants federal pell grands for free because he has “never been convicted” of a felony drug charge. How much you wanna bet he didn’t report his drug dealing INCOME on his pell grant application.

Here’s to you, Captain. You did a great job of summing it up. I agree..I’m sure he didn’t report his drug money on his financial aid form.

I just have a feeling we’ll see his face on here again. I laughed when he blamed NIT for having his face out there again. Everything has its price, what did you expect!!

He is mad cause he thought he had it covered when he paid the Globe off not to publish it.

u guys are assholes. let this kid try to improve his life and become a better person. ur the same type of people who want to keep people down bcuz of their mistakes and then bitch about them getting food stamps or havin to pay for hem while they r in jail. i hope he does change his life around and i wish him the best, but thats just me. but u will keeeeeeep bitching,i know this……..dont judge someone bcuz they sin differently than u.

@carter-are you kidding me?? The guy is a thug and they all say they are trying to go straight and clean up their lives. He has had multiple chances and has done nothing but break the law again. We as tax paying citizens owe him nothing. He needs to prove to us he is clean and so far he has failed miserably. You sound like you might be one of his drug customers and have been smoking some of the funny stuff.

FROM NIT STAFF: CLEAN UP THE COMMENTS PLEASE

Kid just ratted everyone he could to save his own ass! I’ve seen him out in bars, partying it up like nothin.. Throw his dumbass in prison like anyone else with those charges would be.

It is a matter of public record. If you don’t want your name in the news media don’t commit crimes.

Cory you seem to be another drain on society. You complain about the media hurting your chances, but what you need to do is look in the mirror and tell yourself that you did this to yourself. That responsibility for your shortcomings instead if putting the blame on others. It’s time to suck it up and work your ass off for what you want instead if taking it or asking for handouts.

Cory, I hope what you are claiming is true…you are trying to get an education to become a gainfully employed citizen.

Yet, you have to realize that employers and the government perform background checks. Regardless if NIT publishes your crimes, your name is out there from the previous offenses and who knows what else is available through the court system.

You are right, financial aid is not available to someone with drug offenses. You have wasted not only your own time thus far, but you have also wasted tax payers money. Time will tell. It will be interesting to see if we see your mugshot on NIT in the future.

Nailed Matt!! Kudos

Cory, Rather that whine about this why not consider this publicity your “punishment” and consider yourself lucky! Take your medicine like a man, grow up and make something of yourself other than a dope dealer! For some reason the judge took pity on your sorry ass. Take it as a HUGE favor. He handed you back your life. If you are turning yourself around run with that and try putting your name in the paper on the dean’s list! You put yourself in this mess, only you can make your name good again.
