This is NOT fair to the homeowners!!! They pay property taxes and this will definitely affect their home values and quality of life. I would contact a lawyer and all of the council members (as if they would help) Perhaps Mercy & NOT the city should have to buy these homes. Good Luck!

Joe, Mercy already owns the buildings across the street. I think however that residents should require a green buffer zone to mitigate noise from this expansion. Dense high bushes would be preferable to some fence or a view of the rear end of the complex.

This is a done deal. Cry all you want. You can’t stop it.

Hey John….would you want this generator and big cooling fans in your backyard? Would you like tto listen to its constant hum? I sure don’t. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 45 years. What do you think its going to do to the value of my house?

The generators are going to be inside a building and there will be no fans. The fans running now will be removed.

The noise will probably not be any worse than it is now. Would you like to trade places with the residents on the other side of the ER on Linden? Those people probably didn’t like it, but there was nothing they could do when the ER was built and now have lights shining right into their front windows. People adjust eventually. It will be okay.

this hearing is being done because by law they have to. It is a done deal just liking everything in Mason City maybe when they get done tearing down the houses they can put up some pretty art to make the place look better. I would like to see our tax dollars at work or I forgot it isn’t our tax dollars that bought them sorry!

As I understand it, doing a property search on the County web site, Mercy is already the owner of those homes on 1st. They have been renting them out for years. Mercy overpaid for all of those properties on all sides of the current hospital and the homeowners came out very well, as I understand it, a few held out and came out very well.

You people that think that the Hospital controls the City do not understand that this is a huge emerging market with the baby boomers needing health care. This growth industry is exploding and is good for the local economy and jobs here in Mason City. This is a regional center, if they don’t come here, we lose them to Des Moines or Rochester.

I think this is a good thing for Mason City.

How is this good for the city of Mason City? My understanding is Mercy is a “nonprofit” organization that does not pay taxes in this city. If you have ever had anything done there you know someone is making a profit and that it isn’t going to the city. Mercy wants to remove these homes and put in a energy center. Is that going to create a great number of jobs? Where is the benefit for the city? I only see a benefit for Mercy.

Most of those homes look like they’ve been in the Mercy family for 20+ years. Moving into a neighborhood with a hospital, that might be a good thing to look into before buying a home in the same area….they probably have more than their right to do what they want with them.

Trying to picture these streets…Would this include all of the large homes on Beaumont Drive?

Those properties were not listed in this notice. They are all on 1st behind the hospital.
