Washington, Jun 20 – Iowa Congressman Tom Latham met with Iowa representatives of the AARP on Wednesday to listen to their concerns on retirement security issues critical to Iowa seniors.
The meeting was held in Congressman Latham’s Washington office and included AARP Iowa State Director Kent Sovern and AARP Iowa State President Tony Vola. The discussion focused on AARP’s “You’ve Earned a Say” initiative, which is a national program that seeks the input of seniors to create a productive dialog on the future of the Medicare and Social Security programs.
“AARP should be commended for offering its members “You’ve Earned a Say” as an outlet to weigh in on the issues that are bound to have an impact on their lives,” Congressman Latham said. “I’m glad AARP has created this new resource to cut through all the political doubletalk and spin.”
After the meeting, Congressman Latham reaffirmed his commitment to guaranteeing the promise of Medicare and Social Security for current and future recipients.
“Medicare and Social Security are contracts between a citizen and the government that must be honored, and I’m proud of my record of working to preserve and strengthen these vital programs,” Congressman Latham said. “We must strengthen Medicare and Social Security today to guarantee that the programs are there when needed. Congress can do that by working in a fact-based, bipartisan fashion to find better ideas that will produce better solutions for Iowans who rely on these vital programs.”

If that is true then why, Mr. Latham are you and 227 other theives trying to steal my railroad retirement funds. A totally solvant and stand alone system that is no drain on the federal government at all.
