NORTHWOOD – According to claims paid over the prior two weeks, Worth County spent $4,329.15 on engine fuel at an Albert Lea company called South Minnesota Lubes. It was not immediately clear if there is a competitor available in Iowa or Worth County where the same products and services could readily be provided.

Taking five seconds and searching that company tells me it more likely is for oil not fuel, which most likely gets categorized as ‘fuel’ in their accounting. And eng is not for engine, it’s for engineering as in the department.
And if they’d spent MORE money somewhere else, there’d be an article bitching that the county was wasting taxpayers money… If it can be demonstrated they are spending money in MN when the gas could be had for less closer to home, then there’s cause to bitch… but this seems like bitching just to bitch about something.

As to your claim that this is a “non-story” I beg to differ. Worth county is spending thousands across state (and county) lines on engine fuel. I believe it is worthy of discussion, so the information was posted.
… $133.43 – Xerox Corporation Service, I dont know if there were Iowa based companies that could competitively bid this either… So the real story behind this would be the journalist doing his/her research THEN writing the story! So far all we know is who was paid! Non-story at this point!

I agree we spend our money close to home, in some cases however, money is better spent servicing a machine by those best suited to them. Why would someone want anyone other than Xerox Corporation servicing machines made by Xerox? A $133 service charge is quite minimal compared to what could happen when non-authorized people attempt work on them.
That company is worldwide, and has offices in most of the United States, with local employees. Offices in Iowa include Cedar Rapids, Davenport, West Des Moines, and Iowa City to name a few.
