Gov. Branstad appoints Janelle L. Niebuhr to Iowa Public Employees Relations Board

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Terry Branstad today announced that he has appointed Janelle L. Niebuhr to the Iowa Public Employees Relations Board (PERB).

“I am pleased today to appoint Janelle Niebuhr to the Iowa Public Employees Relations Board,” said Branstad. “Janelle’s legal expertise, along with her commitment to public service, will be an asset to the board as they continue to strengthen relationships between government and the public servants of the state.”

PERB is an executive branch agency created by the Iowa General Assembly in 1974 to administer the Public Employment Relations Act, Iowa Code chapter 20, which defines the collective bargaining rights and duties of public employers and public employees in Iowa.

“I want to thank Governor Branstad or providing me with the opportunity to serve the people of Iowa,” said Niebuhr. “I look forward to working with public employees and state government to promote efficient and effective public service for the people of Iowa.”

Niebuhr earned her bachelor’s of Business Administration from The University of Iowa and graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 2008. Niebuhr currently practices law at Whitaker Hagenow & Gustoff.

Niebuhr’s appointment fills the vacancy created when Sue Warner resigned in March of 2010. She will serve the remainder of Warner’s term, which expires April 30, 2012. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
