Tornquist wants the road closed “to eliminate maintenance required during Winter, reduce additional damage from city equipment and collect information that might be beneficial in determining the future of this stretch of road.” What information could be collected over the next three months or so was not made clear in the agenda item.
This portion of Birch Drive was the site of a fatal accident this Fall when a Pontiac Grand Prix with three teenagers inside left the roadway and entered the Winnebago River. One teen died in the accident.
