Young girl nearly abducted at Freeborn county fair, sheriff says

ALBERT LEA, MINNESOTA – A young girl was nearly abducted at Freeborn county fair over the weekend, the local sheriff says.

According to Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag, on August 4, 2018, at about 9:55 PM, Freeborn County deputies were conducting a foot patrol of the Midway at the Freeborn County Fair in Albert Lea when they were stopped by a twelve-year-old female.

She stated she had been walking on the gravel road through the parking lot near the 4H building, on the south side of the fairgrounds, when someone grabbed her waist from behind and told her, “keep walking and nobody will get hurt.”

She stated she complied for a matter of a few seconds when another female who was close by yelled at the male to leave he juvenile female alone. The suspect then fled on foot.

The only description of the suspect is that it was an adult male who wore dark shoes with white laces and had an abnormally deep voice. The identity of the female witness is unknown at this time.

The incident had taken place approximately 45 minutes to an hour before the juvenile female had spoken with the deputies.
