February 28, 1945 – May 22, 2025

Joyce Marie Dirks, 80, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly May 22, 2025 at her home.

A celebration of life will be announced at a late date.

Joyce was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, daughter of Elvis and Sarah (Williams) Parman. She graduated from high school in Essex, Iowa. She later went on to attend college, taking several business classes in Estherville and Spencer. Joyce was united in marriage to Bobby Dirks September 22, 1997 in Dicken, Iowa. Over the years; Joyce had many jobs. She was an EMT and worked in the glue gun factory in Armstrong. She led the youth program with Forest Ridge, and worked as a custodian for the church in Spencer. Her favorite job was being a mother and grandmother. She loved her grandchildren to the point of distraction. Good luck getting her attention if her grandkids were over.

Joyce was headstrong and always spoke her piece. In that same breath she was caring, passionate and loving all at once. She had a hand for art and spent many hours coloring and drawing. Joyce was also a phenomenal sewer and even had the pleasure of sewing her daughter’s wedding dress. As of late she had begun to enjoy putting photo albums together for her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bob; daughter, Melissa (Michael) Clapp; son, Michael Mitchell; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; siblings, Mary Jane, Katy, and Harold; as well as both maternal and paternal grandparents.
