MASON CITY – A missing teen was found deceased in the Winnebago River in Mason City’s East Park, police say.

The Mason City Police Department started working a missing persons case involving Dominic Garrett after he was reported missing by his family on April 4, 2025. Garrett was last seen wearing black and red plaid pajamas and multicolored Brooks tennis shoes. He was not in possession of a cell phone or other electronic device at the time he was last seen.

On Saturday, April 19, 2025, at about 2:06 PM, MCPD was called to a report of a body in the Winnebago River at East Park. Officers arrived on scene and worked with the Mason City Fire Department to remove a body from the river. While the formal identification and autopsy are yet to be completed, the preliminary information points to this being Dominic Garrett’s remains.

Notification has been made to the family.

Foul play is not suspected in Garrett’s disappearance. MCPD is continuing its investigation and will work with the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner as they make a ruling as to cause and manner of death.
