HOUSTON, May 4 (UPI) — National Rifle Association members at the group’s national convention in Houston are celebrating legislative victories and taking aim at gun control advocates.
Convention speakers Friday charged President Barack Obama and other Democrats were using the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Conn., to push for tougher gun laws, CNN reported.
Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action characterized Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg as opportunists, and said NRA members “want to prevent Newtown, not take advantage of it.”
“While we pray for God to comfort those suffering unimaginable pain,” he said, “they rush to microphones and cameras, gather in war rooms on Capitol Hill and scheme about how to use that suffering to push their political agenda.”
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin charged Obama had used the “politics of emotion” by having Newtown families appear at political events.
The widow of slain former military sniper Chris Kyle made a surprise appearance at the convention, addressing the death of her husband at a gun range by a Marine reservist who had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Implying his death was not cause for more gun restrictions, Taya Kyle said, “we know all too well there will always be evil, but that evil shouldn’t take away our freedoms. In fact, the only way to take away evil is by taking advantage of those freedoms.”

Why ban big magazines? They are more likely to jam than smaller magazines, which take 3 seconds to change. Bigger is not always better if you’re trying to kill a bunch of people. The only difference between military-looking guns and hunting guns is the handle and the color. The people calling for these changes are NOT familiar with firearms. The government should be pushing for an anti-bullying movement and mental health evaluations and care centers instead of gun control. All the gun violence is strictly helping The Left’s agenda of disarming the public, Step 1. The more gun violence there is, the more it helps their agenda. The Left’s violent movies and video games have helped set this scenario up and they make sure it continues by shouting “Freedom of Speech”. They are making sure that the First Amendment will take down the Second Amendment. If the liberal writers, producers, directors, and actors in Hollywood really gave a damn about violence, they would stop producing movies, TV shows, and video games that promote violence and give impressionable people ideas about how to get revenge for every perceived slight in their lives. They would go back to movies about heroes, love, overcoming struggles, and themes with positive messages that would still sell and make them money. But that would not advance their agenda of disarming America. Let’s put the blame where it really lies, not on a piece of metal, whether it be a knife or a gun.
We want mandatory safety courses for people, not guns. We want more thorough background checks of people, not guns. We want stricter negligence penalties imposed on people, not their guns.

I don’t disagree with mandatory safety classes. I was very disappointed with Iowa for passing the concealed carry law without the safety class provision. There are already background checks in place. Criminals don’t buy their guns at gun shows or stores. They steal them, buy them on the black market, or force someone else to buy them for them. Duh! And I don’t disagree with stricter negligence penalties for parents whose children get hold of unsecured weapons and injure or kill others. I think their guns or kids should be taken away because they have proven themselves irresponsible. We already have enough laws in place to handle this situation other than mandatory safety and shooting courses. Just enforce them!

A back-ground check, mental health check, ect. lasts about 5 minutes. I have been around many people with guns. They can be perfectly normal one minute and the next, plumb crazy.
Over the last 50 years our world has become so permissive and humanistic that the value of human life just don’t rank up there anymore.
All the laws in the world you want to pass won’t stop the current trend. Maybe, just maybe, if enough of these murders would be put to death and swiftly we could see a change of attitude.
