Women’s College Basketball: Iowa Hawkeyes defeat Virginia Tech, 71-52

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Iowa women’s basketball team traveled to North Carolina and beat Virginia Tech, 71-52, Sunday.

Iowa matched up with Virginia Tech inside the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Iowa fell behind right out of the game, 3-0, and then stormed back to lead the first quarter by 10 points.

The Hawkeyes closed the third quarter on a 15-2 run over the last five minutes of play. Iowa’s defense held the Hokies to 5-of-16 (31%) and 0-of-6 from behind the 3-point line in the third period.

The Hawkeyes outscored Virginia Tech in the paint, 44-24.

Addi O’Grady finished with 18 points going 9-of-9 from the floor. It ties for the third-best single game shooting performance in Iowa women’s basketball history. O’Grady recorded a career-high in field goals and points.

Lucy Olsen led the Hawkeyes in scoring with 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Olsen has scored 20+ points in 11 of her last 13 starts.

Hannah Stuelke registered her 38th career game in double figures which is fifth-most in program history since 2020. Stuelke netted 17 points and team-high seven rebounds.

Olsen and Stuelke accounted for 23 or Iowa’s 34 points in the first half.

Kylie Feuerbach dished out a team-high five assists.

Sydney Affolter logged her first minutes of the 2024-25 season.

The Hawkeyes have won four straight against Virginia Tech dating back to Nov. 26, 2010.

Iowa had three players register double figures.

Iowa had 15 assists on 29 field goals.

Iowa improved to 4-1 all-time against VT.

The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Hokies, 46-29.

The Hawkeyes will return home to face Toledo on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (CT) inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The contest will broadcast on BTN and the Hawkeye Radio Network.
