Work Release Escape – Daniel Avery – Des Moines

The following offender has escaped from a residential work release facility.  The offender was transferred to thisfacility after being granted a work release by the Iowa Board of Parole.  Work Release is a minimum security setting which allows offenders an opportunity to gradually adjust to the transition between prison and the community.

NAME: Daniel Kenneth Avery

AGE: 27

SEX: Male

FACILITY: Ft. Des Moines Residential Correctional Facility

OFFENSES: ROBBERY-2ND DEGREE (2 COUNTS); ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON (2 COUNTS); CRIMINAL MISCHIEF-2NDDEGREE; OPERATING A VEHICLE WHILE INTOXICATED-1ST OFFENSE; VOLUNTARY ABSENCE (ESCAPE)

SENTENCE: Maximum term not exceed 15 years, 1 month and 29 days

COUNTY OF COMMITTMENT: POLK

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

RACE: White

HAIR: Brown

EYES: Green

HEIGHT: 6’1”

WEIGHT: 164 lbs.

PHYSICAL IDENTIFIERS: Multiple tattoos including the word “East” with flames on right forearm and “Side” with flames on left forearm. Also skull smoking a cigarette on right shoulder, and a prison wall on left shoulder.

DATE OF ESCAPE: October 22, 2012

COMMENTS: Avery was placed on escape status at 11:00 pm after failing to return to the facility as scheduled.  Avery was admitted to work release on September 4, 2012.  This sentence began on October 30, 2002. Information as to Avery’s whereabouts should be reported to the Des Moines Police Department or Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
