AMES – Iowa State’s magical season took a wrong turn Saturday when the Texas Tech Red Raiders came to town and handed them their first loss of the season, 23-22.

Texas Tech opened the game on MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium in front of 61,500 fans with a nice drive and a field goal. However, the teams traded scores int he first half and the Cyclones entered halftime ahead, 13-10. The second half was a dogfight and the Red Raiders kept the Cyclones out of the end zone late to keep a lead.

Matt Campbell is now 60-49 at Iowa State and 95-64 overall as a head coach.

Campbell has coached Iowa State as a ranked team a school record 31 times with a 19-12 record.

The Cyclones have intercepted a pass in all eight games this season, the first time doing so in eight-straight games since 2009 (Sept. 3-Oct. 24).

This is the first time since 2009 that Iowa State has intercepted a pass in the first eight games of the season.

Iowa State played its 111th Homecoming game and is now 44-61-7 all-time in those games, including 4-4 under Campbell.

With two interceptions today, Iowa State joins UNLV as the only schools in the country with 30 interceptions in the last two seasons.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Rocco Becht
*Tied Brock Purdy (2019) for the longest touchdown streak in school history, throwing one in 12-straight games.
*Became the eighth player in school history to pass for 5,000 career yards, doing so in his 24th game. Only Purdy (19) and Seneca Wallace (23) have done it faster.
*With two passing touchdowns, moved into a tie for seventh in program history with 43 touchdowns responsible for.
*Threw for multiple touchdowns for the 13th time in his career.
Jayden Higgins
*Turned in his sixth 100-yard receiving game as a Cyclone, tying teammate Jaylin Noel for the seventh-most in program history.
*Moved into a tie for 10th in program history with his seventh touchdown reception of the season.
*Became the ninth Cyclone to have a 100-yard receiving game against Texas Tech, while his 140 yards are the third-most on the list.
*Caught a career-high 10 passes, surpassing his previous high of nine that he did twice.
Jaylin Noel
*Caught a pass in his 40th-straight game, joining Allen Lazard (48) as the only Cyclones to have a reception in 40-straight games.
*His 40-straight games with a reception is tied for the fourth-longest active streak in the country.

Carson Brown
*Had his first career touchdown reception with his career-long 44-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.

Gabe Burkle
*Finished with a career-high in receptions (four) and yards (45) after entering the game with four career receptions for 22 yards in 22 career games.
J.R. Singleton
*Recorded his fourth sack of the season, giving him 7.5 for his career.

Tyler Onyedim
*Tallied a season-high six tackles, while adding a pair of quarterback hurries.
Joey Petersen
*Started his 20th game as a Cyclone.
*Tallied a season-high seven tackles, including his second sack of the season. He now has 5.5 sacks in his career.

Beau Goodwin
*Finished with a career-high eight tackles, including 0.5 for a loss.
Darien Porter
*Played in his 59th game at Iowa State, moving into a tie with former teammate Chase Allen (2017-21) for the fifth-most games played in program history.
*Picked off his third pass of the season and first since recording two against Iowa.

Marcus Neal
*Recorded his first career sack and first career forced fumble.

Beau Freyler
*Started his 30th-straight game at Iowa State, the second-longest active streak on the team behind Jarrod Hufford’s 41 straight games.

Myles Purchase
*In his 46th career game, picked off the first pass of his career. He had 23 career pass breakups entering the game.
Kyle Konrardy
*Tied a career-best with three made field goals.

Iowa State’s game next Saturday against Kansas At Arrowhead Stadium will kick off at 2:30 p.m. (CT) on FS1.
