Deejay raises money for Crisis Intervention Services

MASON CITY – A Mason City deejay has not cut his hair in 4 years. That will change on Thursday, June 5, 2014.

James Shaman, air personality on 103.7 The Fox, will get his hair cut for a good cause on Thursday, June 5th, at Kush Spa and Salon in downtown Mason City. Shaman promised to cut his hair to raise money for Crisis Intervention Services, a Mason City area charity. As of Wednesday, he had raised over $2300.

Shaman, who has been growing his hair out for over 4 years, said he has been given a hard time by some to cut his hair, while others wanted him to keep all 16 inches. James agreed that he would cut his hair and donate it to Wigs for Kids. He also wanted to add a local spin, so he decided to raise money for Crisis intervention Services.

James agreed to cut it off, if listeners would pledge at least $1,037 for donations to Crisis Intervention Services. In addition to this, Shaman called area businesses and asked them to match funds donated by his listeners. Several local area businesses were more than willing to help and stepped up to match donations made by 103.7 The Fox listeners.

Shaman, strives to give back to the community in which he lives so he decided to donate funds raised on the air and by local businesses to Crisis Intervention. When asked why he chose Crisis Intervention, he said, “because they are a local organization that helps families who have been in a crisis, and family is what he is all about.” Crisis Intervention Service is a private, non-profit organization that has provided services to North Iowans since 1977. The mission of Crisis Intervention Service is to provide victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in North Central Iowa with confidential, 24-hour services including emergency shelter, safety, support & education with the assistance of professional staff and trained volunteers.

Shaman says he is more than happy to cut his locks and donate them to Wigs for Kids.

“I was happy to donate to Wigs for Kids, I choose Wigs for Kids because they provide the wigs to kids for free,” said Shaman. For over 30 years, Wigs for Kids has been providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues at no cost to children or their families.

James Shaman will accept donations for Crisis Intervention Services through Friday, June 13th, 2014. He will then present all money raised to Crisis Intervention Services.

To donate please stop by The Fox Studios at 201 N Federal, Mason City, IA, or call James at 641-421-7744.

You still listen to the radio? Hehe

And it wasn’t for the publicity, it was local radio at it’s finest….not riddled with promos of a weight loss product every 4 minutes.

Good project for a good cause.

Most excellent!

This is real, local hometown radio. Way to go, James!
