The Des Moines Register has reported that Stephanie Rose, formerly of Mason City, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate Monday night as the first female U.S. District Court judge in Iowa’s Southern District. The vote was 89-1.

Rose, 39, of Center Point, was nominated by President Barack Obama to be the next federal judge in Iowa’s Southern District. She has worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office since completing law school at the University of Iowa in 1996. She was named top prosecutor for the Cedar Rapids-based Northern District of Iowa in 2009 after prosecuting more than 800 felony cases, leading the prosecution on 260 of those cases.

The Register reported that the sole vote against Rose on Monday night was cast by U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. Both of Iowa’s U.S. senators,  Democrat Tom Harkin and Republican Chuck Grassley, voted for confirmation.
