Lester Hubert “Les” Weitzel, 74, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE Mason City, Iowa. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Croix Hospice.
Les was born on April 19, 1950, the son of Hubert and Rama (True) Moretz of Mason City, Iowa. After the passing of Hubert, Genevieve (True) and David Weitzel adopted Les into their home. He attended Mason City High School where he wrestled, played guitar in a garage band and worked at the drive-in theater. He then furthered his education at Mankato State College. He and Paula Muhlenbruch were united in marriage from 1969 to 1986, from that union two daughters were born. For numerous years Les worked for American Greetings as a Sales Representative, he traveled all over the state. In his later years he worked for Mason City Business Systems, as well as a valet for MercyOne. At one point Les even sold used cars stitching together the invisible string that tied him to his love of driving.
Outside of work, Les enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was an avid movie watcher, golfer, softball player, and pool enthusiast. Music and dancing were also significant parts of his life. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. Les had a youthful spirit, especially when it came to his grandchildren, with whom he loved playing Barbies and trucks whenever he had the chance.
Those left to cherish memories of Les include his daughters, Laurie (Anthony) Nash of Iowa City, Iowa; and Lisa (Patrick Lamoreux) Tiedeman of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Laurel Tiedeman, Jackson Nash, Julia Nash, and Tracie-Lynn Lamoreux; siblings, Sherry Despenas, and Kim (Theresa) DeWitt; special friend, Sandy Zeller; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Les is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Moretz and Rama DeWitt, David and Genevieve Weitzel; sister, Terry Bonner; and brother, David Gene Weitzel.
