Op-ed: Globe is bush league journalism (by Peter Children)

Aside from the fact that recent editorials coming from the local paper are upsetting and appear not only inept but vindictive towards those who faithfully served this community for decades, it is no less than bush league journalism.

An editorial signifies it came from an editor…we all know there is no editor at the local paper. After the last editor was released from service no replacement was installed. Now I am led to believe a troika of sorts has picked up the reins thereby nullifying the notion that if one person could do it then three could do it better.

When the first television station opened in Mason City it was owned by Lee Enterprise, the same parentage as the Globe-Gazette but government regulations made them sell it off due to monopolistic law.  In the end I don’t think it made much difference because through the years this local T.V. station has taken a back seat when it comes to local issues.  Not so with our local paper; they just can’t get it through their head that along with the value of their stock, their opinion of how this city is run has descended to the level of their net worth…which is now classified as junk status in the trade around .98 cents a share, after a recent low of .42.

It has never been my intention to engage in discord with those who write for the Globe; on the other hand I cannot stand idly by and watch three former councilmen get raped with yellow journalism.

In his Monday column, Skipper alludes to “dissidents” here locally; I think he means me. He goes on to say the dissidents want to believe the new council will be a rubber stamp council…..well lets slow this bus down for just a minute…..from loose calculations, I think there have been 50 council meetings since Hickey and Solberg took their seats.  I am quite certain that at every meeting the three puppets all voted in unison.  That my friend is what is known as a “Rubber Stamp” or if you wish a giant prophylactic the likes of which has never been seen before.  Now with the addition of the new council members it will be like they took that new drug called “extend” that’s what I think.

Children isn’t right that often but he sure was this time. My family and I can’t stand the local paper. Haven’t taken it in months. Probably won’t too. They just get it wrong all the time everyone can see that. Ill get my news somewhere else.

OMG!!! Peter Children accusing the Globe or any other organization of being “bush league journalists” is about as rich as it gets. Hack journalism at its finest! Peter, if your reading this, GET A LIFE!!

Myself and my co-workers can’t get enough of NIT. We love to read Peter’s stories and then snicker whenthe Mayor and his cronies come in and act important. It’s a daily thing. He may not be right 100% of the time but it sure puts a smile on our faces.

It has recently been reveled that Turncoat, Hickey & Solberg have vote together over he past two years which begins when Hickey and Solberg first sat down, 88% of the time. In 2011 they voted together 94% of the time, and in 2910 84%. Now that is a real rubber stamp.

For every action there is a reaction. Too bad it slipped the minds of the globe editorial staff to print why the three council members walked out. More one sided pathetic reporting for the sake of trying to boost dying paper sales.

Neknoh spelled backwards is HONKEN

At least I am not on death row.

Peter, what a joke! I read the editorial and it was nothing compared to the way you rant and rail on people you oppose. If they went after the former 3 amigo’s the way you go after your Mayor and your retained council people…. you would probably have a coronary! You live by different rules then everyone else? You can call names and spew lies. However, anyone with a different opinion puts something in writing and you cry foul. You are so sad.

I have to agree here, Peter. It’s ok for you to call out the Globe, but when they have something to say about it, it’s “bush league.”

Joe, you are so right. Pete Children is nothing more than a thumb sucking whiner and complainer. Short of that, he brings NOTHING to the table.

Maybe our beer drinking, gum chewing, fat man has taken over as editor. He tries to control everything else.

Peter, Aren’t you the guy they thought was Nudy Rudy?

The glob is a failing waste of paper which is now resorting to bottom feeder articles to try to create interest back to their side. Its all they and their trained monkey know. NIT rules.

Peter, you got it right calling it bush league journalism. The liberal press bashed George Bush regularly with their left wing rants.

The Globe Gazette has been a dissident newspaper for decades. They always have put down the decent, dedicated, and Citizen Councilman while promoting left wing socialism.

The time has come to label the Globe Gazette, John Skipper, and any news outlet that promotes spreading the wealth up to the rich for what they are. Destructive, Communist/Socialists that hide behind altruism to promote an agenda that strips the people of their freedom!

When the Globe calls people dissidents it is just a matter of the pot calling the kettle black!

Have you ever met Max Weaver?? Enough said.

One other thing, Mr. Children. Max Weaver asserted to me on several occasions that you were employed by the Globe Gazette to write incendiary letters to the editor and comments on the Globe’s web page and that Howard Querry directly supervised your work. According to Max, the Globe considered this a way to drive traffic and sell papers. I don’t know why Max would lie to me about something like this. Is this the truth or is Max a liar?

I was paid to write by the Globe. not much however probaly just a token $20.00 an article if I remember right until I quit. I have no idea of just who approved or “green lighted” my material. It is true I was very brutal to Max Weaver, I hit him very hard.

I read some of Children’s anti-Max editorials. They were thousands of words long and called Max every name he could get away with! And the Globe newsroom thought it was hilarious! Now the tables have turned and they along with the so-called “A-Team” are “wounded.” What a bunch of thin-skinners and crybabies. Seems like NIT is just getting warmed up, I really hope they continue to pound the elite and stick up for the little guy.

Interesting assertion of rubber stamp voting, but if you look at the voting record of the previous Council throughout both the Bang and Bookmeyer terms you’ll see that the Council voted unanimously on about 95% of all issues including issues that were much more important that microenterprise and TIF. While exaggerating the great divide on the council sells papers for the Globe and generates hits for NIT, it presents an unfair and inaccurate reflection to the public of what happens at the Council table.

You are such a self-aggrandizing idiot. Nobody knows you the hell you are. Nor do they care.

Newspaper editorials are the consensus opinion of editorial boards – The Globe lists the members of their editorial board on the top of their opinion page. The newspaper also prints columns by people, which are the individual writer’s opinion.

Yellow journalism? You’re no better, Mr. Children with your name calling of current elected officials with whom you disagree… you slander, throw around innuendo, and have the gall to complain about yellow journalism? Hello Pot, meet Mr. Kettle.

Good grief.

Ok Eric, just have another beer and everything will look better

You think I’m the Mayor of MC? You could not be more wrong, sir. You’re completely, totally factually in infinite error in that assumption. Completely lying. But heck, it’s par for your course.

This ‘editorial board’ you refer to is so out of touch with reality it is frightening. These people barely remember the way to work in the morning, yet they spew their worthless opinions on us all day. You almost need a shower after reading their crap. Children has the cajones to tell it like it is and use his real name like a man, something you, “guest” obviously do not possess.

So, Mr/Ms “I work at city hall” – you whine about me not using my real name, while hiding behind your moniker. Hypocrite.

Mr. Children was factually in error in his second paragraph of this little screed… it’s therefore fair to conclude he’s not reliable in anything he says. If he’ll misrepresent facts like that, he’ll be disingenuous about anything.
