Northern Iowa man dead in two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon

RURAL FAYETTE COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man was killed today in a two-vehicle crash at an uncontrolled gravel road intersection in rural Fayette county.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Monday, July 1, 2024 at an uncontrolled intersection on a gravel road. At 3:56 PM, a 2000 Chevy S10 driven by 41-year-old Joshua Lee Quail of Waucoma, Iowa, was southbound on X Avenue outside Waucoma. The pickup approached an uncontrolled gravel intersection and collided with a 2007 Ford Edge driven by 58-year-old Diana Lynn Mohlis of Hawkeye, Iowa.

As a result of the collision, Quail was killed, declared deceased at the scene. The Patrol claims he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. His remains were transprted by Becker & Son Funeral Homes to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny.

Mohlis was injured but not transported to any health care facility.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Fayette county sheriff’s office, Hawkeye Ambulance, Gunderson Ambulance, the Waucoma Fire Department and Sumner EMS.
