Paul A. Maskarina, 59, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in Mason City.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City. In honor of Paul, casual attire is encouraged.
A lifelong resident of Mason City, Paul was born June 30, 1963, the youngest of five children to parents George and Irene (Anderson) Maskarina. When Paul was 18 months old his father died in a car accident, years later his mother remarried to Cy Willier; a man Paul loved and respected as a father figure throughout his life.
Paul attended Mason City High School and graduated among the class of 1981. On September 6, 1986 he was united in marriage to Amy Kohoutek in Mason City after a whirlwind romance.
Paul loved being a father above all else in life. He was a constant source of support, love, and laughter to his kids. Known for dropping everything at a moment’s notice, he was always there in their time of need. His generosity was known by friends and family alike, a trait he inherited from his mother. Many will remember his easy-going personality, sarcasm, and all-around fun demeanor.
In 1985 Paul began working for Lea Mobile Glass as a glazier and stayed there for his career until his health deteriorated and he had to retire.
Paul spent countless hours thrifting for treasures at rummage sales, auctions, and thrift stores; he always had his eye out for a good deal. As Paul’s health deteriorated over the last ten years, he was forced to slow down and spend more time at home. He still loved watching comedies, NASCAR, and the Twins, Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
He had a soft spot for animals and adopted many cats and dogs over the years. His companion for the past 13 years has faithfully been his cat, Batman.
Paul is survived by his children, Tony (Keely) Maskarina, Nashville, TN. Abby Maskarina and her partner, Josh Perry, Topeka KS, and Chloe Maskarina, Mason City; their Mother, Amy Maskarina; he was the proud grandpa to Mason, Karson, Owen and Maddyn; and a brother to Jean (Mike) Foley, Ankeny. Paul is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, George Maskarina and Irene and Cy Willier; and brothers, Mike, James, and John.
