OBIT: Sandra Wright

Sandra Wright, age 83, of Humboldt passed away on May 5, 2022 at her home. A private Celebration of Life for family and friends will be 4 – 6 PM on Saturday, May 7th at the Wright Family Farm, 2468 Lincoln Ave., Humboldt, Iowa 50548.

Sandra Kay Wright, the daughter of Glenn and Cleo (Scott) Tubbs, was born on September 5, 1938 in Rutland, Iowa. She graduated from Bradgate High School in 1957. On October 12, 1958, she was united in marriage with Paul Wright in Rutland. Sandy worked many jobs. She was the owner of Wrights Blue Light in Rutland and worked for Avon, Patricia’s, and cleaned houses up until the age of 79.

Who was Sandy? A mom, grandmother, great grandma, aunt, friend and confidant. She was grateful, kind, friendly, had a great smile, was always laughing, and had a story to tell. Sandy and Paul traveled around the United States to numerous polka fests and helped bring the annual polka fest to Humboldt. Sandy said “you won’t ever find an unhappy person at a polka fest, it’s all about dancing, drinking, and food.” She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, John Deere mower lawn mowing, and was a hardworking, beer drinking, fireball shot taking ball of fun.

What was Sandy? Friday night beers, cards, Chinese checkers, swear (fine) jar, food, and unlimited laughs. She loved coffee with her friends, working part time at “The Biz”, always looking for a non-technical job and an “OSHA” break. She was a Macgyver, always able to fix anything. A famous quote at “The Biz”, “What would Sandy do?”

Sandy was an avid sports fan who was able to tell you anything about the team and players stats. Her high school yearbook summed it up perfectly “Dynamite comes in small packages”.

Left to cherish Sandy’s memory are her children, Shelly (Rex) Hartwig of Rockwell City, Trent (Wendy) Wright of Sun City, AZ, Renae (Jeff) Dreyer of Humboldt, and Neal (Kristina) Wright of Humboldt; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Glenn and Cleo Tubbs; husband, Paul Wright; siblings, Arlo Tubbs, Ona Hanson, and Wanda Tubbs; and granddaughter, Brooke Dreyer.
