FONDA, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man allegedly began firing a gun in this tiny hamlet and a woman screamed for help as a 911 call alerted cops to a fracas.
On May 11, 2025, at approximately 9:59 PM, the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of Franklin Street and 5th Street in Fonda, Iowa. The caller also stated that they could hear a female yelling for help. As deputies were responding, it was determined that the gun shots came from 400 block of Franklin Street.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, they were able to identify a male subject who was allegedly responsible for the gun shots. Law enforcement was quickly able to determine that no individuals had been hurt and that there was no longer an active threat.
The investigation by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office remained ongoing, and criminal charges were pending the outcome of the investigation.The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
Days later, criminal charges were filed following the completion of an investigation by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office. Dennis Kelly, 68, of Fonda, has been charged with:
– Reckless use of a Firearm, a simple misdemeanor
– Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor
