ESTHERVILLE – A North Iowa man has been arrested and accused of area car burglaries.
On September 27th, in the morning hours, Estherville Police Officers received three reports of vehicles that had been entered by unknown persons during the overnight hours. The victims reported that they were missing wallets, identification cards, money and other items from their cars. One of the victims, was able to capture a suspect on a home video system. Those photos and videos were put on social media by the owners.
Officers of the Estherville Police Department were contacted on September 30th, 2020 by Deputies from the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office. The Deputy advised that during an investigation in Emmetsburg, Palo Alto County Deputies and Emmetsburg Police Officers received information about thefts that had occurred in Estherville and other locations over the last couple of days. Estherville Officers were able to obtain a search warrant for a residence in Milford for the stolen property.
On September 30th, 2020 Officers from the Estherville Police Department, Milford Police Department and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1204 S Avenue in Milford.
Following the execution of the search warrant, Estherville Police Officers filed charges and requested arrest warrants for 23 year old Troy Dean Petersen of Milford and formerly of Emmetsburg. Petersen was charged in Estherville for 3 Counts of Burglary in the 3rd Degree.
On October 5, 2020, Petersen was arrested on the outstanding Emmet County warrants and booked into the Emmet County Jail. Petersen remains in the Emmet County Jail facing a $6,000 cash or surety bond.
The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
