CEDAR RAPIDS – An Iowa man pursued his lady to a Cedar Rapids bus stop and assaulted her multiple times with a knife, police say.
On Wednesday, September 16 at 12:41 PM, Cedar Rapids police officers were dispatched to the bus stop in the 5500 block of 6th Street SW for a stabbing incident.
Officers were advised that a female victim had been stabbed and there was a male suspect who had attempted to flee the area but was being pursued by other individuals.
Officers arrived on scene and located a 34-year-old female who had sustained multiple stab wounds to the upper body. Officers administered emergency medical care and the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening stab wound injuries.
Officers also located a 33-year-old male who indicated that he and the female were engaged in a domestic disturbance. He was transported to a local hospital for minor cuts, and then was transported to the Linn County Jail. The suspect was identified as Jayce William Baskerville. He was arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order and Assault Domestic Abuse with a Weapon Causing Injury.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the disturbance between the two individuals appears to have originated in an apartment at 5560 6th Street SW. The male involved in the incident followed the female to the bus stop, where the stabbing occurred.
Unfortunately NCOs are only worth the paper they are printed on because too many abusers pay no attention to them. They do not mean protection by police, who often ignore calls that the offender is violating the NCO unless the victim can prove it.
