Franklin county sheriff says mystery of vehicle driving into law enforcement center is solved

HAMPTON – The Franklin county sheriff says the mystery of a vehicle driving into and damaging the law enforcement center is solved.

Franklin County Sheriff Aaron Dodd says that at 10:30 PM on September 9, 2020, a red or maroon 2002-2005 Ford Explorer drove into the conference room doors of the Franklin County Law Enforcement Center, located at 105 5th Street SW in Hampton, Iowa.

“We believe that it was an intentional act and are thankful no one was injured,” Sheriff Aaron Dodd said after the incident. “This vehicle will have both side mirrors damaged, front passenger fender damage as well as damage to the wind shield and hood. If you have any information about this vehicle, or have seen it, please call the Franklin Co Sheriff’s office at 641-456-2731.”

On Wednesday, September 16, Sheriff Aaron Dodd said offered an “update” on the incident, saying, “this investigation has been solved. With all the recent negativity shown on television, printed in newspapers and displayed on social media for law enforcement, we are sincerely grateful to live in a community that continues to assist and support us.”

No further information was released.
