FLOYD COUNTY – Assessed property values will change as the Floyd county assessor’s office has announced door-to-door inspections of all properties are set to begin this month.
The Floyd County Assessor’s Office released the following statement outlining the plan:
Floyd County Assessor, Gary Vander Werf, is announcing that door-to-door inspections of all properties in Floyd County will begin approximately June 11th.
A reappraisal project was approved by the Conference Board in February, 2015.
The purpose of the reappraisal program is to equalize property assessments so that each taxpayer is responsible for paying only his/her fair share of the property tax burden. Periodic inspections and reappraisal of properties is necessary as all types of properties do not increase or decrease in value at the same rate. Some properties physically deteriorate faster than others, and in many instances similar homes & buildings in different areas of the county will differ greatly in value due to economic factors.
Data collectors with photo ID signed by the assessor will make interior and exterior inspections of all properties. They will be compiling information to be used to estimate the fair market value of each property. Information to be collected includes type of construction, type of interior finish, physical condition of the property, age of structures and exterior measurements. A complete sales analysis, local construction costs, and economic conditions are also considered. No estimate of value will be given at the time of inspection.
Property owners are asked to cooperate by allowing a complete inspection of their property and providing accurate information so that a fair and equitable assessment may be determined for each property.
The preliminary data collection process will begin in June, 2018. The project is scheduled for completion December 31st, 2019.
Notice of final value estimates will be mailed to each property owner after January 1, 2020. The property owners will have an opportunity to meet informally to discuss their revaluation in the spring of 2020.
The new assessed values will be effective for January 1, 2020 for taxes payable in fiscal 2021-2022.
Representatives of Vanguard Appraisals, Inc. in conjunction with the Floyd County Assessor’s Office will be conducting this project.
All law enforcement agencies as well as the Floyd County Assessor’s Office will be apprised of the areas where data collectors are working. They will also have a listing of all names and license plate numbers of anyone involved in the project.
If any property owner has questions regarding the reappraisal project, they are urged to contact the Floyd County Assessor’s Office at 641-257-6152 or email: gvanderwerf@floydcoia.org

ROBERT when they did mason city we were told that we could not refuse them to come in, if we did we could be charged. Now theres a law that takes it way ahead of any others., when they canme to my house I was working on my boat and the guy said “your busy” Ill just look at the outside. He looked and measured and left, never did go inside.
Cerro Gordo tried the same thing. No one ever did show up at my house, or call, or try to contact me in any way. What a scam.
So, when the assessor comes across one of the 500 or so homes that are a complete dump and full of meth labs and pit bulls, with landlords who don’t give a shit, what will they do? Will they report to authorities? If I was one of the thousand scumbags in town, I would be shitting my pants about now. Apparently you won’t even know ahead of time the day they are coming to your home to assess it inside and out. I’ve never heard of anything like this. Is it even legal?
Don’t know how Floyd County works, but the retired Cerro Gordo County assessor notified the county sheriff if there was suspicious activity .
So what if the occupant(s) refuse to let the assessor in the house? There has to be an ordinance or a written law that says they must let the assessor in, otherwise we could all not let them in, right?
You do not have to let them in. However, if you don’t, they can assess a penalty–in MC we were told that if we didn’t let them come in, they would assess at 150% of what they thought it should be.
time to buy shares of Vaseline, get ready to bend over and give the “spenders of our money” more money to waste.
Floyd County has a true politician in Linda Tjaden ! She told everyone how much it was going to raise there taxes and lone behold after the election is over they announce that they are going to re assess the property values in Floyd County which will increase the taxes once again. Just another scum bag political move !!! Nice job Linda !!!!
Did you even read the article? This was initiated by the assessor ‘s office, the supervisors have nothing to do with it.
Probably be more profitable to round and deport illegals than violate the 4th amendment rights of citizens.
Need to start drumming up money for their new super max rural county jailhouse. Much like Mason Cities state of the art jail that is way to small now. These guys are lackeys. lol
It wasn’t to small until all the Meth Heads from BeeGee decided to stay in Mason City. Of course you have all the Chitcago transplants that are in there too.
