AMES, Iowa – Aug. 13, 2012 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is announcing the permanent closure of the southbound Interstate 35 rest area near Ankeny. The facility will close at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20. Electronic message boards will be activated to alert travelers of the closure.
The closure is required as part of the new interchange being constructed at 36th Street in Ankeny. New rest area facilities are expected be constructed in 2013 along I-35, between exits 96 and 102 north of Ankeny.
Other southbound Interstate 35 full-service rest areas are located at milepost 120, just south of Story City and at milepost 32 near Osceola.
Traveler services are available at private businesses along the I-35 corridor in the Des Moines Metro area, Ankeny and Ames, including those that can accommodate commercial motor vehicles.
