Iowa truck driver hurt in Worth county crash

RURAL WORTH COUNTY – An Iowa truck driver was hurt when he crashed his semi into a bridge support along Interstate 35 in Worth county.

The accident took place Friday, February 9 at about 7:51 PM in Worth county on Interstate 35 near the southbound 207 mile marker. A semi truck driven by 70-year-old Thomas William Torkelson of New Hampton entered the median and continued in the median until it struck the bridge supports at the 203 interchange and came to a stop.

Torkelson was hurt in the crash and Mercy Air Med arrived on the scene to transport Torkelson to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

Assisting at the scene was the Iowa State Patrol, Worth county sheriff’s office and Forest City Ambulance.
