JASPER COUNTY, IOWA – Two Iowans are dead in a head-on auto collision last night.
On Thursday, June 2, 2022, at approximately 7:53 PM, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a motor vehicle traveling the wrong way, westbound, in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 163. At approximately 7:56 PM, additional 911 calls were received of a motor vehicle accident on Hwy 163 near the 23 mile marker. This location is between Monroe and Prairie City in Jasper county.
A preliminary police investigation indicates that the driver of a 2014 Lincoln MKX, 79-year-old Dorothy Findlow of Monroe, Iowa, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, collided with a 2022 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 46-year-old Delia Vance of Pella, Iowa, traveling eastbound.
Dorothy Findlow was pronounced dead at the scene. Delia Vance was treated at the scene by Monroe Fire/EMS and later flown to a Des Moines area hospital by helicopter; however, she later died.
The accident is currently under investigation. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Monroe Fire/EMS, Prairie City Fire/EMS, Monroe Police Department, and Prairie City Police Department.
