Mason City man to face plea hearing in drug and theft cases Monday

MASON CITY – A Mason City man struggling with with felony drug charges and theft arrests will face a plea hearing Monday morning.

Donald Joseph Reuter appears to be entering into plea deals in connection to an arrest on September 1, 2016. That day, Mason City police went to the Ashley Inn Hotel, 3451 South Federal Avenue, looking for Reuter. At that time he had a valid warrant for Parole Violation. Officers located Reuter inside a room at the Ashley and arrested him on the warrant. Officers located drug paraphernalia, packaging, suspected meth, and currency in the room or on Reuter. Reuter was charged with Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Deliver and Possession Drug Paraphernalia. He was jailed on the warrant and the two new charges.

Reuter was then busted with illegal substances by Mason City police on January 1, 2017. He faces a felony drug charge and a charge of providing false ID to police. He will face a plea hearing on March 6.

Days earlier, on December 20, 2016 at about 9:42 PM, Reuter was detained by Walmart employees in the entrance for allegedly shoplifting $250.00 worth of merchandise. The merchandise was recovered. Reuter has prior theft convictions so the arrest charge was enhanced to third-degree theft. Reuter was also charged with Providing False Information because he allegedly gave some wrong info (name spelling, DOB, DL info) to the investigating officer when he was trying to identify the suspect. The officer was able to ID Reuter and take him to jail from Walmart. He was charged with third-degree theft and will again be in court March 6 for a plea hearing on that charge, along with a driving while barred charge.

NIT reported back in 2012 that Reuter was paroled from prison on October 9th of that year  after serving 5 years and 10 months in prison. Reuter had been sentenced to prison in January 2007 following a guilty plea in Hancock County to a class C felony 1st degree theft of more than $10,000 from a Garner Business.

Reuter’s criminal record includes a 2002 class C felony conviction in Blackhawk County for possession of meth with intent to deliver, and 3 class D felony convictions in Blackhawk County for 2nd degree thefts of over $5,000 each. He was sentenced to one 10 year prison term and three 5 year prison terms in those cases.
