CLEAR LAKE – A troubled Clear Lake Motel will be changing names and owners – once a nagging problem involving unwanted guests is resolved.
Katie Showalter of neighboring Rumorz Bar and Grill hopes to finalize the sale of the business as soon as possible and take ownership. She plans to re-name The Silver Boot Motel, located at 1214 South Shore Drive, to Rumorz Neighborhood Hideaway. She has big plans for the motel, including renovations, but first, an ongoing problem with what some refer to as “squatters” must be resolved.
Sources tell NIT that a Clear Lake city attorney told some persons living at the Silver Boot – currently owned by Ted Christianson until the sale is final – that they could continue living there, even after Christianson has declared the motel closed and even had power shut off at one point.
A woman who is still living there said she refuses to leave until Christianson pays her what she calls “back wages”.
Katie Showalter told NIT that Monday, October 13 “is the day the court will decide to help get all the squatters out of here”. She said that Alliant Energy shut off power to the motel again Friday night at 5:00 PM.
She also said she is excited to begin work on renovations, and all the single and double rooms will be upgraded.
“We are completely redoing all rooms for a great overnight stay. We will have limited rooms the first 6 months as the renovation is completed.”
Thank God this lady Mrs Showalter will help our crime go down here. I am old enough to remember how nice this motel use to be. It was always kept up real good. Nice people, families, would stay there. Now when we drive by the Boot we see creepy’s in the parking lot, alot of them look like they was just on a episode of “COPS” or “America’s Most Wanted”. For shame these dead beat’s hold this up, Mr. Sorensen should be run out of town on a rail. Sorensen, he is no good, even for a lawyer.
@ Donna, it is worst then that me and the wife, we was driving by that place a way’s back. Them scum squat’s in the Boot, they was going out there way to scare Rumors customer’s when they was leaving out the bar. We seen it before to, them druggy’s they steal cook meth sell it buy it yes. The whole place would of probably got blowed up by now if the power would not of been shut off. To bad we can not put no bounty’s on them scum, they are worst then rat’s and possum’s and coon’s yes.
