Opinion: Richest country in the world should do more for those less-fortunate

My television set is turned on this morning to CBS News, the focus right now is a medical costs that effects people who are diabetic and need insulin to stay alive. It appears the three pharmaceutical giants that produced this drug have colluded with one another…. at least evidence points in that direction. This was done to raise the price of this life-saving drug.

Look out the window if you can and what you see is America, it’s pathetic to read in the paper where fundraisers are being held in the local gymnasium to raise money for a young child who needs life-saving surgery. In my opinion the richest country in the world needs to step up for a family such as this – there should be no cost as long as the need is authenticated. The hospital should do it without charge as should the physician. If this country can build new roads in Iraq and build new schools for the children in that country why should a child living in America need to go begging for a medical procedure that could save their life? Why do they need to sell macaroni and cheese in some church basement and then bring the money that they raised to some guy who is driving a $80,000.00 Mercedes and his wife has a $40,000.00 BMW parked in the garage? I know, I know that these people paid dearly to acquire those skills that can save lives, I know that they lived frugally for 10 years before they could walk into the Mercedes dealership. I also knew the late Dr. Harry O’Brien the eye surgeon. I knew after he retired he did one pro bono surgery every week.

I am not advocating socialized medicine, what I’m advocating is community compassion for those less fortunate….

Thank you Peter. And to the least of those among us whose very presence reminds us of our call to care for one another.

In my view Peter Children has brought up a topic worthy of open discussion, only by caring do solutions come about, and it is caring people who make the decisions on how to bring about solutions, brain storming is an admirable skill hopefully more will take up, one idea I personally have is “prevention” of disease and researching is a good start.

Every man woman and child US debt share is about $40,000.00 – hey Pete still think your a rich bitch ?

Pete I think your brain is soaked in garlic. Wake up boy and drink more bottled water – No tap water kool aid.

You left out olive oil

Private sector $21,000,000,000,000 in debt = BANKRUPT ! Government $21,000,000,000,000 in debt RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD? Sounds like the democraps cooked the books AGAIN!

A dog can be raised be friendly….or mean. The same is true of people.

Richest country in the world ? 90 million unemployed – 120 million on food stamps? If your a public servant its fine but the private sector is in deep do do. Did you get this advice from CNN /abc/cbs/ all controlled by the commie democrats? FAKE NEWS !!!

So you are saying the about one third of the country is unemployed & on food stamps.
Could you possibly be a bigger dumb-ass?
Never mind, you are just one stupid SOB.

You are the stupidest S.O.B. denier I have ever seen. What Anonymous say is true when you look at the under-employed, people who have just given up and people drawing disability when they are capable of working.

My recommendation is listen to & read, https://youtu.be/d2T_SwzH1OM, TheHealthRanger youtube channel.

Should we make some slight provision for the poor and destitute, who suffer greatly at the present time?

Many thousands are in want of common necessaries; hundreds of thousands are in want of common comforts.

What to do, what to do?
.

The Mayo Clinic has a foundation called Porta
Bella that pays for those who can’t. They solicit contributions from their patient base. I have made modest offerings to it.

Paul you are right. Charity begins at home. It’s always nice to hear how everyone thinks we should do more for the underprivileged etc., how about everyone who advocates for all of this free stuff start by opening up their personal homes and provide the food, shelter, and medicine they want everyone else to pay for. I work hard for my money, always have and always will. I’m tired of giving it away to others. And yes, I have had my share of medical bills that weren’t covered by insurance. And guess what, by taking additional work and over time I paid them off myself.

And now the Republicans in Congress are going to roll out their plan to privatize Medicare which will further demoralize and destroy older Americans who right now are barely getting by. Paul Ryan wants to give seniors vouchers to buy their own insurance. How will this work out? By lessening the options available, increasing deductibles, adding to out of pocket costs, and further enriching big pharma and insurance companies.

I think the fund raising is a demonstration of community compassion and mabey we should be taking care of our own citizens before we fund others
America is the most generous nation on the planet both private citizens and government
How about the heating and cooling companies get together and donate some fans and ac units to the less fortunate? Charity begins at home

I don’t understand the correlation

Something really need to be done about the out of control drug company’s getting rich off the backs of people who need the drugs. I have no problem with them getting a return on their investment but I do when they are gouging the public.

you must be talkin about the oil money in the middle east
