Charles City man guilty of sexual abuse

CHARLES CITY – A man who has run for school board twice in Charles City has been found guilty of sexual abuse.

A Floyd county jury returned a guilty verdict Tuesday afternoon for Douglas K. Lindaman, age 60, of Charles City. The jury had worked for only a few hours beginning Monday before bringing back the verdict.

Last August, Floyd county deputies had detained Lindaman at his home after a judge issued a warrant for his arrest on a charge of third-degree sexual abuse. The alleged crime took place in spring of 2011 against a 17-year-old boy.

Lindaman is a convicted sex offender due to felony sex crimes he committed in the 1980’s but was eligible to run for public office – school board, in this case – because his rights were restored. Since this latest arrest and crime was only a charge and not convictions, his name was not removed from the ballot last fall. He lost the election.

After the guilty verdict was read Tuesday, Lindaman was taken to the county jail. He awaits a June 7 sentencing hearing.

Lindaman has indicated he will appeal.
