Twenty MCHS students to perform at 2014 All-State Music Festival

MASON CITY – Mason City High School Instrumental and Vocal Music Faculty announced 20 students from Mason City High School have attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected to perform at the 2014 All-State Music Festival.

District auditions for the 281-piece All-State Band, 201-piece All-State Orchestra, and 601-member All-State Chorus were held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Storm Lake, Hampton, Manchester, Harlan, Indianola and Washington. Approximately 17% of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles.

The MCHS Chorus qualified 15 students for participation: Sean Beemer (Bass), AnaBella Christianson (Soprano), Sawyer Goetz (Bass), Ben Hoekstra (Bass), Skyler Lee (Bass), Nic Murray (Tenor), Amelia Ouverson (Soprano), Lydia Ouverson (Alto), Olivia Pederson (Alto), Ethan Pruisman (Tenor), Ben Siglin (Tenor), Samantha Simmers (Soprano), Elijah Warfield (Tenor), Blake Weitzel (Tenor) and Abby White (Alto).

The MCHS Orchestra qualified one student for participation: Olivia Pappas (Cello).
The MCHS Band qualified four students for participation: Savannah Dahlstrom (Clarinet), Ellie Lehmann (Trumpet), Ashley Rottinghaus (French Horn), Abby Lucas (Euphonium), and Alternate – Sarah Betz (Tenor Saxophone).

Participants will audition for chair placement in Ames on Thursday evening, November 21, with all three groups rehearsing on Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22. The Festival Concert will be presented to the public at 7:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State University, Ames, on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast. Please check the IPTV website (www.iptv.org) for the exact dates and times. This program is under the auspices of the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa Music Educators Association.

Tickets are $18.00 each and are available through the Iowa State University ticket office. All seats are reserved.
