CL man sentenced to 4 days in jail for assault, imprisonment

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man is in jail, serving a four day sentence after a guilty plea to a domestic assault charge and a false imprisonment charge.

Alex David Meyer, age 25, will be in jail until June 19th after being booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail Monday afternoon. Meyer pled guilty on June 3 to domestic assault causing bodily injury and false imprisonment, stemming from an incident in Clear Lake on December 31, 2013. Meyer had faced those two charges along with two counts of criminal mischief and obstruction of emergency communications. Judge Annette Boehlje sentenced Meyer to 4 days in jail and $1,050.00 in fines and court costs. Meyer has pleaded not guilty to the criminal mischief and obstruction charges and awaits a trial later this month.

Meyer also pled guilty on June 10th to a charge of disorderly conduct brought by Clear Lake police. He was assessed $147.75 in fines and court costs by Judge Patrick Byrne.

According to Clear Lake police, on December 31, 2013, three Clear Lake police officers were called to the Quick Shop, located at 904 North 8th Street, to answer a domestic call involving a man and a woman.

When the officers arrived, they found Meyer standing outside next to his girlfriend’s car. She was inside the car and told officers that she and Meyer had argued and that during the argument, he had hit the windshield on her car and cracked it. She said he also took her phone and broke it. As the officers spoke to her further, she told them that Meyer had held her against her will at his hotel room and that he assaulted her. She had bruises on her arms from that assault.
