MASON CITY – A young lady was hurt while working at Southbridge Mall Sunday after a soda machine apparently fell on her.

According to reports to NIT, the incident happened around 3 PM Sunday at Pretzelmaker. A fifteen-year-old employee, Kristina Hendrikson, sprained her leg when a soda fountain machine she was filling fell off a counter on top of her and pinned her.

“It was heavy as hell,” Hendrikson posted to Facebook Sunday evening.

A nearby Victoria’s Secret worker, Kristin Marie Virgin, came to Hendrickson’s aid. She said that the soda machine “wasn’t attached to the counter. Sucker was heavy. Not even 3 full grown men could lift it more then 6 inches.

“I was there and rushed over from (Victoria’s Secret) to help,” Virgin continued. “The girl was behind the soda machine and Pretzel maker and it tipped over (unsure how) Her legs were pinned under and we were able to lift it up just barely to get her legs unstuck. She was comprehensive and talking.”

Another person said that “My nephew was there and said he heard a crash, scream and ran over there and there was a girl under the machine.”

Hendrikson was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Hospital and her parents were on their way to meet them there, NIT was informed.
