Investigators probe Boston suburb in marathon bombings

WATERTOWN, Mass., May 21 (UPI) — Investigators in the Boston Marathon bombings want to know what attracted the Tsarnaev brothers to the Boston suburb of Watertown, Mass., authorities said.

Law enforcement officials told ABC News it is clear the brothers had connections in Watertown because they headed there days after the April 15 attack.

A parking ticket obtained by ABC News was issued to a car registered to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Feb. 18, 2011, on the 200 block of Boylston Street in Watertown.

Investigators learned Dzhokhar was a frequent guest at an apartment on Boylston Street belonging to Maximilian Freddura, part of a prominent Boston restaurant family.

That apartment is just a block away from the corner of Lauren and Dexter streets where police first caught up with the Tsarnaev brothers five days after the marathon bombing.

It was the second time in three years that the blue-collar suburb appeared to have links to a terror attack.

Federal court records indicate Watertown was the scene of FBI raids in 2010 after agents learned Faisal Shahzad, convicted of trying to detonate a car bomb in New York’s Times Square, came to the suburb to pick up $5,000 from a Pakistani citizen who lived there.
